The forest at The Stiks has been very carefully managed according to the
guidelines advised by the Department of Natural Resources. This management
has involved selective thinning, under brushing and controlled burning to
promote maximum growth of the trees and reduce fire hazard. The Iron Bark has
flourished under these conditions and sustainable logging can be undertaken.
Iron
Bark grows into a magnificent tree that is extremely hard and durable. Like most
Outback timbers, it is resistant to termites and rot. It is an excellent fencing
and construction timber. The outer sapwood is a beautiful yellow, while the heart
wood is a contrasting deep red.
It is also a valuable tree for beekeepers as the honey is of outstanding
quality.
